Thomas C. Lockburner, 86, of Florham Park, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on September 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 22, 1939, in Lafayette, New Jersey, Tom graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1962 with a B.A. in Accounting. Tom built a distinguished career with Deloitte, where he earned his CPA in 1965 and became a respected leader in the financial services and securities industries. Over a remarkable 40-year tenure, he rose to serve as National Audit Partner for the Financial Services and Securities Industry, overseeing the firm's services to securities industry clients nationwide. His expertise, integrity and leadership earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Following his retirement, Tom continued to share his knowledge and experience as a member of the Board of Directors with Knight Capital Group. He was actively involved in numerous professional organizations throughout his career, including the Financial Management Society, Securities Operations Society, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority ("FINRA"), National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) Arbitrators and the NASD Financial Responsibility Committee.
For all his professional accomplishments, he would have said his greatest success was his family.
Tom had many passions and pursued them with enthusiasm. He loved golf and fishing, and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. After a round of golf, you could often find him clamming in Barnegat Bay. He was dedicated to annual family reunions and enjoyed Hibatchi birthday dinners at his favorite restaurant Kyoto, where you can find him in numerous photos on their wall. He cherished his role as Pop Pop, and was a familiar face at his grandchildren's hockey, football, and baseball games, as well as their cheerleading events and dance recitals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Belma Lockburner, his beloved wife, Alice, and his siblings, Francis, Florence, Betty, Joyce, Tucker, Jean, Marjorie, Frank, Elaine, and Diane. He is survived by his children, Dawn and Michael Bayles, Thomas Lockburner, Frank and Cheryl Lockburner, Dana Lockburner and her fiancé Brian DiPrimo, and Warren Lockburner, and his ten beloved grandchildren, Alexandra, Steven, Christian, Thomas, Rebecca, Matthew, Lexy, Ryan, Brooke, and Michael.
Tom leaves behind a life defined by family, hard work, generosity, and the many things he loved. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park, on Thursday, September 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be Friday, September 25, assembling at the funeral home at 10 a.m., followed by a committal prayer service and interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover at 11 a.m.
