Obituary

Shirley Wetter, age 99 from Florham Park, NJ peacefully passed away on the morning of July 11, 2022.

Shirley shared a fun-filled life with her beloved husband Bernie (who passed in 2019) for 71 years. They had a wonderful adventurous life together filled with love and laughs. They were graced with good health for most of their lives together so they were able to travel and cruise all over the world.

Born in Milwaukee, she lived with her parents, 2 brothers and sister in Whitewater, WI. When they moved to New Jersey, she attended Madison High School and then moved on to become an RN by going to Overlook Nursing School. She retired early but not until she spent several years at Overlook Hospital.

Boating was a love of Shirley's for years. She and Bernie had a boat at Shelter Harbor Marina on LBI where they enjoyed fresh air and all the marina's activities and parties. She loved the boating life and knew all the happenings resulting in her nickname, "Harbor Master".

Some of Shirley's favorite hobbies were traveling, scrapbooking from her travels, shopping for bargains, acrylic painting, reading the paper, puzzle books and bird watching. She enjoyed the Madison YMCA 3 days a week until she was 90 years old.

Shirley suffered a stroke and moved to Sunrise of Madison Assisted Living in 2018. The fellow residents and Care Managers became her new family and she remained as active as her late 90's would afford her. She was known as the wearer of big, crazy, colorful plastic glasses. She enjoyed her once-a-day Ghirardelli dark chocolate squares. Maybe this is a secret for the rest of us…. the secret to longevity?! Shirley had a motto many didn't know..."Be Happy – Be  Yourself". Her joyous personality, beautiful smile, quick wit and positivity shows she truly lived by this motto.

Shirley is survived by 3 daughters (Pam, Debby and Cindy), grandson Dustin, 4 great- grandchildren (Emma, Dustin Jr., Ariana and Leo).

A private memorial will be held for Shirley at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum on Friday, July 15th at 11 a.m.
