Ruth E. Duncan, of Hopatcong, formerly of Jersey City, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on August 27, 2022.

Ruth was born in Jersey City, N.J. where she resided for most of her life. She spent summers in Budd Lake, N.J. with her parents and sister Dorothy. She continued her summers at Budd Lake with husband William and three sons. She relocated to Hopatcong, N.J. in 1998 until she passed away on Saturday. Over the last 10 years or so, she also enjoyed her summer weekends in Point Pleasant, N.J. with her son John.

After High School in Jersey City, Ruth worked as an Executive Secretary at John Jay College and the Colgate Palmolive Company. At Colgate she also did several modeling assignments before leaving to start her family.

In both Jersey City and Hopatcong, Ruth was a member of the Women's Club, held numerous PTA positions while her sons were in school, and was the President of the St. Peter's Prep Mother's Club for 2 years. In Hopatcong, Ruth also enjoyed being a member of the Hopatcong Seniors Club.

Ruth had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed travel on special group trips with her close friends, enjoyed reading novels. Sometimes as many as four a week. Since New York City was so close, Ruth loved going to the New York Metropolitan Opera, Broadway shows, and so many of the New York museums. Her other interests included crossword puzzles, knitting afghans, making jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, needlepoint and playing various board games. She never passed up a chance to play a good game of scrabble.

Ruth's favorite passion in life was her husband, Bill, three sons, six grandchildren and recently, her three great grandsons.         Love you Mom!

Devoted mother of William P. Duncan, Jr., John C. Duncan, Robert L. Duncan and his wife Ellen M.  Cherished grandmother of William P. Duncan, III, his wife Bruna, Mark R. Duncan and Heidi Duncan, Brittany L. Edwards, her husband Kevin, Robert L. Duncan, Jr., his wife Alyssa, and Stephen C. Duncan, his fiancee Amanda.  Proud great-grandmother of Kevin Edwards, III, Austin Edwards and Chase Duncan.  Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ruth was pre-deceased by her husband William P. Duncan, her sister Dorothy Kessler and her husband Harold.

Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Wednesday from 4-8pm.  Funeral on Thursday assembling at the funeral home at 10am followed by a prayer service at the funeral home at 10:30am.  Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
