Leonardo Di
Stasio
d. Nov 19, 2020
Leonardo Di Stasio, 85, of East Hanover, passed away peacefully in his home on November 19, 2020.
Leonardo was born on November 6, 1935, in Alberona, Italy, where he was raised until leaving his hometown to serve in the Italian Navy. In 1958, Leonardo came to Orange, NJ, where he met his wife Anna Maria. They married at Mount Carmel Church on January 5, 1963.
Leonardo spent his years as a mason contractor and builder, showcasing his hard work and talent before retiring at age 65. In his spare time, Leonardo would frequent Caffe Roma and the Alberonese Social Club, where he was a longtime member. He also enjoyed taking Sunday rides to see the homes he helped build in addition to traveling the world with his wife. Together they had the pleasure of traveling to Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, and back to his homeland of Italy.
At home, Leonardo would often be found working in his garden, tending to his yard, or watching western movies with his wife. In accordance with the traditions of his homeland, Leonardo would make wine every year for his family to enjoy. Leonardo's house was filled with the smell of espresso from his coffee machine, and the sound of Italian, Mexican, or Country music from his radio that he would enjoy while relaxing on his recliner. Any visitor to Leonardo's home will remember being offered a shot, a cold beer, or a gin and tonic while chatting with him about his memories of work or his childhood in Italy. His generosity and hospitality to his guests reflected his genuine nature and kind spirit. Most of all, Leonardo will be remembered for the unconditional love that he had for his family and friends.
Leonardo is survived by his loving wife, Anna Maria (nee: Catucci), his son Dan, his daughter Mary Ann and her husband George Gallara; four grandchildren, Lenny and Gianna Di Stasio; and Giovanna and Rocco Gallara. Leonardo is also survived by four siblings, Michelina, Vincenzo, Maria, and Rocco. He was predeceased by his brothers Giovanni and Francesco.
Leonardo left an impression on everyone who knew him and will be forever missed.
Funeral services were held privately.
Donations can be made in Leonardo's name to Lustgarten.Org or PanCAN.org for pancreatic cancer research.
