Obituary

John S. Mullen of Williamsburg, Virginia and formerly a long-time resident of Florham Park, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2025 with loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Grace E. Mullen, and only child of John F. and Beatrice Mullen, all of whom predeceased him. John is survived by his four children, John P. Mullen, Mark J. Mullen, Mary Ann G. Lemere and Caroline E. Tremonte. He was also a cherished grandfather to nine grandchildren.

Born and raised in Schenectady, NY, John received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic University in 1951 and a MBA from Rutgers in 1960.  He moved to NJ after college and worked for Tidewater Oil Company for 3 years before joining Exxon Research and Engineering where he stayed for 39 years until his retirement in 1993.

Shortly after moving to New Jersey John and Grace met at a CYO meeting, and soon after married and started a family.  John's career took the family to California, England and Italy on various assignments.  John was fond of camping with the family in California and along the East Coast, particularly to shore points where he liked to surf fish. In retirement John and Grace spent many happy years at their second home in Sag Harbor, NY, where family often joined them for vacations.  John and Grace were also active parishioners at Holy Family Church in Florham Park for 50 years, where they sang in the choir and volunteered in various capacities.  Above all, family and faith were always the center of John and Grace's life. John was fond of telling jokes and humorous stories, while always providing a listening ear, guiding hand, and unconditional love to his children and grandchildren.
