Ignazio "Iggy" Pravata, 84, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on September 17, 2023.
Iggy was born in Newark and grew up in Belleville, where he graduated from Belleville High School. After marrying his wife, Chicky, they remained in Belleville where they started their family. They moved to Bloomfield before settling in Fairfield in 1977.
Iggy retired from the USPS as a letter carrier with 30 years of service. He started in Newark, transferred to Nutley and retired in Roseland.
He was an avid Yankees fan always looking forward for baseball season to begin. He and the love of his life, Chicky, enjoyed vacationing in Aruba over the years. He also enjoyed playing poker in Atlantic City and visiting the the Monmouth Racetrack every year with his family. Iggy loved the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" always saying how one person can affect the lives of many!
Devoted father of Cheryl Riccardello, her husband Jerry, Andrew Pravata and his wife Jill. Cherished grandfather of Nichol, Jerry and his wife Karen, Joey, Tommy and Andrew. Proud great-grandfather of Rory and Penelope. Dear brother of Josephine Alexander and Richard Pravata. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Iggy was pre-deceased by his wife Rosemarie "Chicky" Pravata of 54 years, his parents Andrew and Anna Pravata, and his brothers George and Andrew Pravata.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Tuesday from 4-7pm. Funeral on Wednesday, assembling at the funeral home at 8:45am, followed by the funeral mass at St. Thomas More Church in Fairfield at 10am. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
