Emilio Amoresano (88) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Salerno, Italy to Pasquale and Giovanna (nee Malzone). At the age of 17, he immigrated to America. Although Italy was his native country, he truly loved America and what it represented. He arrived on a Wednesday, had his first Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, and began his career as a mason/builder on that Friday.
A chance encounter at a wedding is where Emilio met the love of his life, Annette. They married in 1963 and had two children. They lived in several towns before settling in Florham Park and eventually retiring in Brick.
Emil was a perfectionist and took great pride in his brickwork building homes all around northern New Jersey, including his own. He was a respected businessman and admired by many.
His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he never missed an opportunity to tell them so. His many words of advice and wisdom were affectionately known as "Emilio-isms" and the lessons he taught will not be forgotten. He was a great role model of what an honorable, hardworking, noble human being should be. He will be remembered as caring and a loving man.
Emil was a man of many talents and hobbies. He played the guitar, he loved to sing and listen to Italian songs. He enjoyed painting, woodworking, and yardwork. If something broke, he could fix anything with a creative solution. In earlier years, he made his own wine.
After his retirement, he and Annette moved to a senior community in Brick where he enjoyed Bocce games, crabbing, riding his scooter, and attending social functions. He often sat on his front porch as neighbors walking by would always stop to talk.
Emilio was predeceased by his son Pasquale, his sisters Antoinette and Carmela, and stepmother, Rose Marucci.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Annette of 63 years; his daughter Diane and son-in-law Antonio, daughter-in-law Toni; grandchildren Marisa, Michael, Mia (Dan) and Joseph; sister Rose Franzi; brother Nunzio (Angela); sister Joanne (Jim), brother-in-law William (Wilma), nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 4th from 2:00pm-4:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Hwy.88, Brick. A visitation will also be held Thursday, November 5th from 9:00am- 10:45am at Leonardis Memorial Home, 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park followed by the funeral mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, East Hanover at 11:15 am. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Emilio's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
