Damon C LaSalle, Sr.

Damon C. LaSalle, Sr., 78, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026 after a long-fought battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Born to Arsenio and Angela LaSalle, Damon grew up on Ashland Avenue in West Orange, where his lifelong love of cars began at an early age. He was known for owning and meticulously caring for several great cars over the years, including his beloved red Corvette. In addition to marrying his high school sweetheart, Michelle, and starting their family, Damon attended Teterboro School of Aviation and went on to work for United Airlines for more than 10 years, often commuting nights by motorcycle to LaGuardia, JFK and Newark airports. His passion for aviation also extended beyond his career, as Damon eventually earned his private pilot license and owned a plane of his own.

During his time with United Airlines, Damon also worked part-time at an automotive repair shop owned by Otto Vogler, who became an important mentor in Damon’s life. Otto taught Damon the specialized skill of repairing Mercedes-Benz automobiles, and Damon eventually purchased the shop from him. With Michelle’s support, Damon made the transition to running the business as his own, building what became Damon’s Foreign Car Care. Shortly after this, Damon and Michelle moved their growing family to Florham Park, a move that meant parting with his beloved Corvette but reflected what would always come first in Damon’s life: his family.

For 37 years, he handled all the hard work and headaches that came with owning a business, but doing so gave him something far more valuable: more time with his growing family. No matter how long the days at the shop became, Damon always made time for his children. Whether taking them to concerts and sharing his love of music, playing in the backyard, teaching them how to change a tire and drive a stick shift, or fix something themselves - some of the most important things Damon taught his children were simply learned by spending time alongside him.

Damon was never a man of many words, but he didn’t need to be. He was always ready for a good time with family and friends, especially when it involved a great dinner, good food, plenty of laughter, and stories about people and times gone by.  Damon also played men's softball for many years, aptly nicknamed “Ace” and known for his towering home runs into the lake. He also loved snowboarding and the many ski trips he shared with his family and friends, remaining on his board and gracefully making his way down the mountain to the very end. Damon had a phenomenal sense of humor and an infectious laugh that those who knew him will immediately remember. Above all, Damon was kind, respectful and honest, always thinking of others before himself. He lived his life without needing attention or recognition, showing the people around him how much they mattered through the time he gave them, the things he taught them, and the many simple moments they shared together.

Beloved husband of 57 years to Michelle (Candeliere) LaSalle. Devoted father of Laura Wrieth, her husband Brant, Linda Valera, Damon C. LaSalle, Jr. and his wife Emily. Cherished grandfather of Olivia and Steven, Anthony, Damon and Max. Also survived by his extended family, including his in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Damon was pre-deceased by his parents Arsenio and Angela, and his sister Brenda Benacquista.

The memorial visitation will be held at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Saturday, October 24th from 9:30am – 12:30pm, immediately followed by a celebration of life at Damon’s favorite restaurant: Bella Italia in Orange, NJ.
