Alfonso Alfano

Alfonso Alfano, 83, of East Hanover, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lanzara, Italy to the late Vincenzo and Maria (Sessa) Alfano.

A bricklayer/stone setter by trade; Alfonso was a self-employed small contractor.

Alfonso as a young man served in the Italian military. Before he immigrated to the United States, he traveled for work to many different countries to support his family.

He will forever be remembered by all as a skilled worker. His grandchildren and children will forever remember their time spent together making wine, canning tomatoes, as well as cultivating fruit from trees and vegetables from his garden.

Beloved husband of 55 years to Maria (Bio) Alfano, where they resided in Flushing, New York before settling in East Hanover, New Jersey. Devoted father of Maria Biggio, her husband Chris, Silvana Antoniello, her husband Steven, Elisa Custode, her husband Frank, Vincenzo Alfano and his wife Kelly. Cherished grandfather of Daniella, Brianna, her husband Justin, and Vincent, Ava and Alexander, Claire and Dylan. Proud great-grandfather of Addison Grace. Dear brother of Emilio Alfano and his wife Rosetta. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Alfonso was pre-deceased by his siblings Franco, Antonio, Luisa, and Felicia.

Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Thursday, September 3rd from 9-11am, followed by the funeral mass at St. Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover at 11:30am. Entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alfonso’s name to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
