Irma R. (Rizio) Scelba, 84, of Millington previously from Elmwood Park N.J., a retired and beloved educator in Elmwood Park passed away peacefully with family at her side on Sunday 6-24-18. Irma was an accomplished, respected and loved educator for over 25 years. She always aspired to become a teacher, and once her children were well established in school she enrolled in night and summer classes at Paterson State College. She went on to graduate and earn a BS in education in a remarkable 3 ½ years.
No one loved teaching more than Irma and being a progressive educator, she recognized the future of an ever-changing cultural environment. To stay ahead of things to come, she enrolled in a graduate program at William Paterson University and earned a master’s degree in urban education.
To be closer to her daughter Carol and her family, Irma moved with her husband Frank to Millington NJ, shortly after her retirement.
Irma embraced all people alike and shared her special love with everyone she met. She was a wonderful motivator and brought the best out of her students, as well as her family and many adoring friends. She lit candles with a prayer for all those in need, but the brightest candle was the pure essence of her love.
She and her husband considered their greatest accomplishment to be their family that spans four generations. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Dave and Jody Scelba, Paul Scelba and Carol and John Rizzi, her four grandchildren and their spouses Kristofer and Susan Scelba, Jessica and Michael Curran, Jenna and Aaron Utman and John “JC” Rizzi, as well as her six-great grand-children Nicholas, Joseph and Giavanna Scelba and Sofia, Sienna and Michael Curran.
