Francisca “Mimi” Champion (Guerrero), 91, passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2018. Francisca was born in Honduras and has resided in Florham Park since 1969. She earned her diploma in nursing in Panama, B.S.N. from Seton Hall and M.A. in Parent-Child Health Nursing from NYU. She was OR head nurse at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, OR nurse at NYU, and on the faculty of Seton Hall from 1966-1989. She founded the SHU chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the internat’l nursing honor society, received professor emerita status, McQuaid Medal for Distinguished Service, Margaret C. Haley Distinguished Alumnus Award, Many Are One Alumni Award. In retirement she served as a parish nurse and Eucharistic minister, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Morristown Area soup kitchen, Morristown Memorial Hospital, Friends of Morris Museum, was President of Morris Museum Volunteer Assoc., and belonged to Rosary Society, Historical Society of FP, Women’s Club of Millburn. She lived out the sentiment of Msgr. Robert Sheeran, former SHU president: “Is there anything more noble than a life dedicated to caring for others?”
Beloved wife of the late LeRoy L. Champion. Devoted mother of Sally L. Landi, her late husband Frank, Mary Farnham, her husband Mark, the late Sharon Fogle and her husband Jerry. Cherished grandmother of Nancy, Lisa, Lance, Corey, Frank, Nicole, Peter and Kristiane. Great-grandmother of Logan, Ryder, McClane and Isabella. She is also survived by her dear sisters Alicia Guerrero, Nena Gonzalez and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be on Wednesday, April 25th, 10am at Holy Family Church in Florham Park followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Seton Hall University College of Nursing, Holy Family Parish, or VNA of Somerset Hills Hospice.
