Mary Percario (DeFabrizio), 97, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024.
Mary was born in Newark, NJ on March 21, 1926 to Mary and Thomas DeFabrizio. She graduated from Barringer High School in Newark in 1944. She attended Montclair State College, but did not graduate. She worked at the Prudential Life Insurance company in Newark in the Life Agency department. She met Luke Percario there and they married in 1958. She retired from work in 1959 after the birth of her first child. She and Luke raised their children, Laurene and Luke, Jr in Short Hills and Lavallette, NJ. Mary went back to work later part time, running the after school program at Wyoming Elementary School in Millburn. She was active in the Deerfield Elementary School PTA, the Deerfield-Crossroads Civic Association and the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Rose of Lima church in Short Hills.
Devoted mother of Laurene Stanton, her husband James, Luke A. Percario, Jr. and his wife Sandra. Cherished grandmother of John and Michelle Stanton, Christina and Luke, III “Trey” Percario. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Luke A. Percario, Sr. of 61 years, her parents Thomas and Mary, and her sisters Michelen Mascia and Rose Centanni.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church in Short Hills on Tuesday, February 27th at 11:15am, followed by the interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
