William Dolan Obituary

William “Bill” Dolan, 91, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully on March 19th, after visits from all of his family.  He was born in Madison, New Jersey to William and Marie Dolan (nee White) on July 12, 1926.  Bill left high school in Madison in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman for nearly two years.  His ship, the USS Gosselin, escorted the USS Missouri into Tokyo Bay where the peace was signed in August 1946, ending WWII.  Upon returning home, he graduated from Madison High in 1947 and later from Rutgers University.  Bill married Irene Hollowood on September 25, 1949 at Saint Vincent's Church in Madison.  Over a forty year period he worked as an accounting department manager for the Ciba Pharmaceutical Company in Summit, the Radio Corporation of America in Harrison and the National Broadcasting Company in New York City.

He also served as a volunteer at Mt. Kimble’s Rehab Center in Morristown for more than 10 years. Like his parents and great grandparents before him, Bill was an accomplished horticulturalist and took great pride in the small apple orchard he maintained behind his home.

Bill is survived by his wife Irene, his brother Robert and his sister Marie as well as his children, Lawrence and wife Margaret, Lynn and husband Robert, Martin, Jen and husband Dan and Matthew and wife Jennifer, nine grandchildren and many friends from Brookdale – Florham.
