Dear Father Burns was a true hero and perfect mentor for so many. He was an honest, caring and fun loving human being to me and so many others during my high school days and continued to help and give me much needed comfort and advice during some very emotional and difficult times after my graduation. I have thought of him often these past years and will always remember his greatness. God bless you Father Tom.

I remember being at Westbook for summer vacations and Fr. Tom was one of the most favorite adults - especially with a new boat and teaching us to ski and most of all laugh
with us - he was full of wonderful stories and had a way of reaching out to you that you
were very important to him. God bless.....

Father Burns was such an inspiration to me at the time of my marriage in St. Cecelia's Church in Kearny in 1966. Being I was of a different faith, he led me through my transition into his faith with tenderness and caring. He officiated at my wedding also and I have often thought of him throughout the years. He is no doubt flying about with other angels and still apart of our daily lives. Thank you Father Burns and Rest in Peace.

Rest in Peace Fr. Tom
I knew you from the very 1st day you came to St Cecilia's and had the pleasure of your kind and loving friendship for all these years along with that of your family. What a incredible role model for a REAL christian you always were. Even though we only talked about 5 times a year, you have and will always remain a treasured spirit to me and my family.

Rest in peace, Father Tom. I know that there is golf in heaven and I look forward to hearing your laughter again. I was always grateful that you allowed me to bring Father Barrett to marry Mike and I. And, you never batted an eye when I began taking classes to visit the cathedral. You were always loved and you will always be missed.

Fr. Tom affected my life in so many ways. Altho distance came between us, he was always in my thoughts. He lived a very clean, pure life for which the Good Lord has recognized him for.
'Til we meet again, you'll be making a difference in all the spirits who have gone before you.
I'm so glad that in death you'll be back in New Jersey!

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of one of the finest men I have ever known, Father Burns. My sincerest condolences to all the members of the Burns family.
My family were parishioners of St. Cecilia's parish during his tenure there. Over the many years , my three brothers and I served as altar boys and served thousands of Masses with Father Burns. In fact, when I came of age, Father Burns did the altar boy training. He told us to bow before and after every mistake. As alter boys we were perplexed by this advice , but came to value it as a precious life lesson that can be used throughout life. I will always recall his intense kindness that he bestowed on everyone. He will be missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace. Tim Donovan
