Dr. George E. Hlavin, II, 76, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 13, 2018. Born on March 4, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Hlavin grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, and graduated from Columbia High School.
Dr. Hlavin attended Rutgers College of Pharmacy where he graduated with his Bachelors of Science in 1963. In 1965, he enlisted in the U.S Army where he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army’s Medical Service Corps in Vietnam. He was a decorated Officer, and the proud recipient of, among others, the Combat Medical Badge.
Always the patriot, the discipline he learned while serving in the U.S. Army never left him as friends and family will attest. Dr. Hlavin went on to graduate from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1973 and completed a residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr. Hlavin was on staff at Saint Barnabas for over 30 years, practicing as an Obstetrician / Gynecologist, before retiring in 2008.
Dr. Hlavin was an avid billiard player and proud member of the Florham Pistol and Rifle Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Lynn (Howell); daughters Kelly Hlavin and Jennifer Palatucci, and her husband Scott, and was the cherished Poppy of Gianna and Brielle.
Dr. Hlavin is also survived by his sisters Carole Hlavin Burns, Cathie Hlavin Kelly, and her husband William, as well as his brother Thomas Hlavin.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home 210 Ridgedale Ave. Florham Park on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral on Friday assembling at 9am followed by a service at the funeral home at 10am.
